DeSantis to offer land next to Freedom Tower in Miami for Trump presidential library

Must read

Gov. Ron DeSantis is proposing to offer 2.63 acres of Miami-Dade College land for a Donald J. Trump presidential library and museum.

A statement from the governor’s office issued Sept. 23 said the land, now an employee parking lot, “would provide additional economic development opportunities” in South Florida as well as house the first presidential library in the state.

The site is adjacent to the landmark Freedom Tower in downtown Miami. Miami-Dade College has just completed a refurbishment of the property that is now dedicated to a museum presenting the building’s 100-year history.

In addition to the original home of the now defunct Miami News, the office complex served as a Cuban refugee resettlement facility in the 1960s and 1970s.

For that reason, it has been dubbed Miami’s “Ellis Island.”

The statement added the governor would offer the proposal for the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library on Sept. 30 at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund.

“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” DeSantis’ prepared statement said. “No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”
