Recent polls found President Donald Trump with the lowest approval of any president in decades during their first 100 days in office.
Still, voters who voted in the last election say the 47th president would handle the job of the presidency better than former Vice President Harris would, according to a recent CNN poll presented by CNN Polling Analyst Harry Enten.
Forty-five percent of registered voters who said they voted in 2024 told pollsters that Trump would handle the presidency better compared to 43% who said Harris.
Twelve percent of registered voters said both Trump and Harris would manage the presidency in the same way.
“Despite the fact that Trump’s favorable ratings are not too hot to Trump, when he was matched up against who he was matched up against in 2024, he’s still, across the polls, scores a higher percentage then Kamala Harris,” said Enten.
The CNN Poll was conducted between April 17 to April 24 with a margin of error of 3.3%.
Another poll presented by Enten, this one from ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos, found that more registered voters trust Trump on the issues facing the nation than than Democrats in Congress.
Forty percent of registered voters in the poll said they trusted Trump, while just 32% said Democrats — a difference of eight percentage points.
“When you mention Donald Trump against his actual competition, Donald Trump comes out ahead,” Enten said. “The bottom line is, when you look at Donald Trump in a vacuum it’s one thing but when you actually match him up against folks in the real world, all of a sudden his numbers look considerably better.”
The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll of 1,992 registered voters was conducted between April 18 and April 22. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 2%.
Even though Trump is becoming more unfavorable among voters, Democrats and Republicans have popularity problems of their own.
A Fox News poll released last Friday found that 41% of respondents had a favorable view of the Democratic Party, while 56% had an unfavorable view.
A nearly equal number, 54%, said the same thing of the Republican Party, while 44% of respondents had a favorable opinion, according to the poll.
While the poll found the Democratic Party to be marginally more unfavorable than the Republican Party, it also found them to be the favorites for the 2026 midterms.
When asked the question of which party’s candidate they would vote for in their district if the election was held today, 49% of respondents said they would vote for a Democrat while 42% said they would vote for a Republican.
The Fox News poll of 1,104 registered voters was conducted between April 18 and April 21, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
