A Delta Air Lines flight from Omaha heading to Detroit made an unexpected stop after a male passenger from Nebraska attempted to open an exit row door.
On Thursday, June 17, the crew on Delta Connection flight 3612, operated by SkyWest Airlines, reported a passenger disturbance, and the plane made an unscheduled stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, around 7 p.m., according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Cedar Rapids Police Department arrested the passenger at the Eastern Iowa Airport. According to a police Facebook post, Mario Nikprelaj, 23, is now facing charges of disorderly conduct, assault, possession of prescription medication, tax stamp, and harassment first degree.
The flight was a third of the way into the trip when they made an unplanned landing. Due to the stop, the plane arrived in Detroit three hours later than anticipated, according to the tracking site Flight Radar.
SkyWest released a statement: “SkyWest has zero tolerance for unruly behavior as safety for our customers and crew is our top priority.”
