A now-former track coach and teacher at Detroit’s East English Village Academy is accused of sexually assaulting one of his male student athletes, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office announced Wednesday.
Nathan Lemuel Tedford, 54, of Detroit, is charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The victim is 18, Worthy’s office said. The assault is believed to have taken place at Tedford’s home on May 29.
“Tedford was the victim’s teacher and coach at the time of the crime. The defendant is now a former track coach at East English Village Academy,” the office wrote in Wednesday’s news release.
“More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination.”
Detroit Public Schools Community District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tedford was given a $50,000 cash or surety bond and can’t have any contact with anyone under 21. His preliminary examination is scheduled for July 3.
