The Powerball jackpot is one step closer to that $1 billion mark, after no one walked away with the jackpot on Aug. 27.
After 39 consecutive drawings without a winner, the Powerball jackpot has now hit an estimated $950 million with an estimated cash value of $428.9 million. This streak has landed this jackpot with the title of the sixth-largest jackpot in the history of Powerball.
It’s also the largest jackpot the game has had in a year, according to powerball.com.

No one walked away with the jackpot, but some lucky players woke up to winning tickets.
Tickets sold in Arizona, New York and Virginia hit for $1 million. Three tickets in Mississippi, Ohio and Virginia won $2 million.
Additionally, 40 tickets won $50,000 prizes, and 10 tickets won $200,000 prizes.

The next Powerball drawing is on Saturday, Aug. 30, at approximately 10:59 p.m. ET/9:59 CT. Powerball has three drawings each week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

There have been 39 drawings since the last Powerball jackpot was won in 2025 and none of them has come this close to the $1 billion mark.
The most recent winner was on May 31, when a ticket in California won the $204.5 million prize.
The first jackpot of the year came out of Oregon, netting $328.5 million on Jan. 18. A second jackpot winner matched on March 29, winning the $527 million jackpot. A third jackpot winner from Kentucky won the $167.3 million prize on April 26.
Has anyone claimed the $2 million ticket in Tennessee?
If you bought a ticket at Mapco, located at 2142 Central Ave. in Memphis, ahead of the Aug. 20 Powerball drawing, check to make sure you aren’t sitting on a $2 million winner.
According to the Tennessee Education Lottery, the lottery ticket has yet to be claimed.
And it’s not the only one.
After the Aug. 23 drawing, two Tennessee tickets also hit for the $50,000 prize. One ticket was sold at Four Way Express Mart, 6745 Hwy. 45 S. in Ramer, while the other was sold at Racetrac, 1804 Gallatin Pike N. in Madison. No one has claimed these prizes as of Aug. 25.
