A Waterbury man has been charged in connection with a residential burglary in Naugatuck after investigators were able to tie him to the crime with DNA, police said.
The burglary was reported in April 2024 at a home where the front door was damaged and power tools belonging to a contractor were missing, according to the Naugatuck Police Department.
Investigators were able to find multiple items on the property which were believed to have DNA on them, police said. They were sent to the state Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis, which helped identify 42-year-old Philip Brown as a suspect, according to police. Police noted that Brown’s criminal history includes a conviction on burglary charges.
According to police, Brown allegedly refused to comply with a court-ordered search warrant during the investigation. He was arrested Monday at Waterbury Superior Court and charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree larceny, criminal mischief and interfering with a search. Police said he faced a judge the same day.
According to court records, Brown remains held on a $5,000 bond and is due back in court on Monday.
