A man was arrested and booked on felony charges after driving over 140 mph across the Mill Avenue Bridge in Tempe and fleeing from officers twice, according to police.
The man, identified as Mazen Alassmari, 18, had been reported several times for reckless driving and loud noise, according to a Facebook post by the Tempe Police Department.
On Sept. 9, officers attempted to stop the car, but Alassmari drove away, blowing through red lights to avoid stopping, police said.
The next day, Alassmari was caught speeding again and attempted to evade officers a second time.
However, officers caught up to the vehicle and stopped the car using a grappler. Alassmari was arrested for felony flight, and his vehicle was impounded, police said.
“This isn’t something we tolerate. We’re addressing it head on. In cases like this, that means impounding vehicles and holding drivers accountable,” Tempe Police Department said in a Facebook post.
