The shop was closed at the time and in the midst of renovations in anticipation of a busy spring and summer season.

The shop was a popular stop for visitors to Cuyahoga Valley National Park as it was situated in a quaint building just off of a heavily biked stretch of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

Eddy’s Bike Shop announced late Monday that it will reopen for rentals on Friday.

“While the old location was unable to be saved the amazing people in Peninsula helped us find a location we believe will be perfect for the cyclists in this area,” the bike shop announced on social media.

The new shop is situated at 1655 Mill Street West in Peninsula near its previous location.

History of the old Eddy’s Bike Shop building

Summit County records show the former 4,000-square-foot home of the bike shop was built in 1893.

Located on the eastern bluff overlooking the Cuyahoga River by the state Route 303 bridge and the tracks for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, the structure had been home to a number of businesses over the past 100 or so years including Garvey’s Saloon, Scotty’s Place, Millie’s Inn, Old School Ties, Peninsula Bridge Antiques and Century Cycles.

Century Cycles called the structure home starting in the 1990s before calling it quits in 2024 when Eddy’s Bike Shop took over the busy spot.
