Effingham County Sheriff’s Office provides update on crash, stolen ambulance

Must read

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two suspects involved in a police chase Monday afternoon.

Georgell Brown, 51, ran from law enforcement after the crash on McCall Road and has been charged with loitering. Dwayne Simmons, 56, allegedly stole an ambulance. Simmons faces more than a dozen charges, including driving with a suspended license, two counts of aggravated assault and hijacking of motor vehicle.

According to ECSO, it is still unclear as to whether the two know each other or were involved together during the crash that occurred on McCall Road as both have been uncooperative.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Monday, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Rincon Police Department responded to a call involving a two-car accident in which two individuals fled the scene.

Simmons forcibly stole an ambulance and intentionally ran into a Rincon police cruiser, forcing the vehicle to collide with another.

Officers attempted to stop him using a precision intervention technique maneuver, but were not successful. Eventually, Simmons crashed into a ditch.

Both suspects were booked into the Effingham County Jail.
