A Jefferson County grand jury indicted two former high school football coaches on over 50 combined counts related to child sex abuse.

Former duPont Manual football coaches Donnie and Ronnie Stoner, who are brothers, were charged July 18 in Jefferson Circuit Court.

Court records show the brothers, who are twins, were indicted on counts including rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and unlawful transaction with a minor in relation to at least four minors identified by the initials A.S., A.F., A.J. and A.C.

According to court records, A.F. was younger than 14 years of age; A.S. and A.C. were both younger than 16; and A.J. was younger than 18.

Zachary Kilgore was also charged in the indictment. Although Donnie Stoner already has an active criminal case regarding child sex abuse, Ronnie Stoner and Kilgore have not faced previous child sex abuse charges related to this group of minors.

An earlier grand jury indicted Donnie Stoner in July 2023 on 20 counts, all related to allegations of sex abuse of a 17-year-old female student. A Jefferson County grand jury indicted him on six counts of rape, six counts of sodomy and eight counts of sexual abuse.

The indictment alleged the abuse occurred between May 30 and July 13, 2023. Jefferson County Public Schools temporarily removed Stoner from his head coaching position at Manual the following day. Following a court hearing in February, Donnie Stoner was still employed by JCPS, but in a role that did not have student contact.

JCPS officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment about his current employment with the district.

Donnie Stoner’s trial on the earlier charges is set for Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.

Donnie Stoner’s original case was one of those detailed in “Silence & Secrets,” an investigation released December 2024 by The Courier Journal that focuses on the prevalence of child sexual abuse cases involving school coaches.

The newspaper found at least 80 cases of alleged child sexual misconduct by Kentucky middle- and high-school coaches during the past 15 years, including what were then three active cases of former JCPS coaches.
