Excessive rainfall, flash flooding possible in Kentucky, Southern Indiana this weekend

Must read

Excessive rainfall with a possibility for damaging winds and flash flooding is expected throughout Kentucky this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers and storms are expected to develop in the early afternoon on Saturday with the potential for gusty winds and torrential rainfall in parts of Southern Indiana just to the north of Louisville. An organized thunderstorm complex will approach the region from the northwest Saturday afternoon, and it could bring damaging straight-line winds to the region.

Meteorologists expect 1-3 inches of rainfall on Saturday and a slight chance of flash flooding, due to heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Storms will likely continue into Sunday, which also poses a slight risk for flash flooding throughout the state. The Louisville, Lexington and Frankfort areas along with Northern Kentucky and parts of Eastern Kentucky are considered to have a higher risk for flash flooding Sunday afternoon and evening than other areas of the commonwealth.
