Lower Hudson Valley residents may be in for some extreme heat conditions and a possible second round of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, July 16.
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for portions of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and downstate New York, in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday. An air quality alert has also been issued from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday morning began with patchy fog, but the mist cleared to mostly sunny skies. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees; however, heat index values could make temperatures feel as high as 98 degrees.
Showers and thunderstorms may be possible after 2 p.m. and into Wednesday evening. Temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday evening to around 74 degrees.

More rain on the way for Lower Hudson Valley July 17
While Wednesday only has a slight chance of precipitation, Thursday’s rain is almost guaranteed according to the National Weather Service.
Showers are expected to start Thursday morning, with a possible thunderstorm before 11 a.m. In the afternoon, showers and a chance of thunderstorms may continue. However, rainfall amounts in the region should only amount to less than a tenth of an inch.
More extreme heat could develop Thursday, as high temperatures near 90 degrees could feel like 99 degrees with heat index values. Overnight, skies should be partly cloudy with low temperatures near 74 degrees.
Friday could bring a pause in rainy conditions, with sunny skies and high temperatures near 86 degrees. Overnight, skies should be mostly clear with temperatures near 64 degrees.
