The leaves in northwestern Pennsylvania have started to change, according to the first fall foliage report for 2025 released Sept. 25 by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The report states forestry staff in Cornplanter State Forest, which serves Erie, Warren, Forest and Crawford counties, say fall color has “recently exploded” in northwestern Pennsylvania.
When will Erie see peak of fall foliage color?
Throughout the month of October, the northwestern Pennsylvania region will see leaves ranging in color from yellow, brown, red and green.
The report states that some trees, including red maple, aspen and dogwood, have already started to drop leaves and are starting to display shades of colors.
Fall foliage in other counties
The majority of the state reports leaves are just starting to change color, and 18 counties are approaching peak color, according to the report.
In counties in the north central and northeastern portion of the state, including McKean, Potter, Bradford and Susquehanna, the foliage is approaching peak color.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources released the first fall foliage report on Sept. 25 showing that Erie County is just starting to see some changes in the fall foliage.
Only one county in Pennsylvania, Tioga County, has reached its peak.

A cluster of counties in southeast Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, have no change in foliage.
