Jun. 8—Pro Clean Carwash began as a family business on June 23, 1993. Thirty-two years later, it still stands as a locally owned, family business, with the goal of giving an auto-spa-like experience.
“We’re fiercely loyal and protective of the community and the customer base we have had for 32 years,” said Shelli Hilde, whose family owns the wash in Kalispell. “We’re now passing it on to our next generation.”
Originally opened by Shelli and Mark Hilde and currently operated by their son, Austin Hilde, the shop still focuses on a brushless, touchless tunnel wash with hand drying and hand washing techniques. The benefit of a touchless system, according to the owners, is that it gently cleans vehicles without the risk of scratches or damage.
The wash options range from $13 to $21 based on level, all including free vacuums and floor matt cleanings.
The most basic wash comes with an exterior wash, hand-prepping to remove dirt and debris from hard-to-reach areas, and hand-drying to prevent water spots and streaks.
The next level, the protection wash, adds an underbody flush. The deluxe adds a clear coat sealer for shine and protection, and the ultimate wash includes a ceramic graphene coating for enhanced shine and protection.
“The investment of a car is a huge investment for any person or family. We pride ourselves on taking good care of them,” Shelli said. The ultimate wash option is a newer option, Austin said. The graphene-infused carbonite surface hardener improves surface hardness, enhances a glossy appearance, adds durability, and acts as an anti-corrosion agent against road salt and other contaminants.
Most important, Shelli said, is the importance of giving back. Pro Clean Carwash participates in fundraisers throughout the year, where a percentage of proceeds go to various charities.
The business offers fleet deals and other group packages. It also recently introduced multiple package options, including a new monthly subscription.
The monthly plan, with three separate tiers for different levels of washes, ranges from $35 to $45 a month and includes unlimited carwashes for patrons.
In 2002, Mark and Shelli bought and added an oil change quick lube location to the property. In 2022, Valvoline purchased the quick lube portion.
When Pro Clean Carwash first opened in the early 90s, Mark said, there was barely anything around them on East Idaho Street. But nevertheless, the Pro Clean Carwash stands firm, with a line of cars flooding the streets on sunny days, all rushing to get into the wash tunnel.
“I’m looking forward to keeping this thing going. Every day can be a challenge but it’s exciting every day too,” Austin Hilde said, who officially took over the business in 2023.
Pro Clean Carwash is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
