A 72-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 28 in Middleboro on Friday morning, according to officials.
Middleboro Police and Fire Departments were called to the area of 446 Wareham St. (Route 28), around 8:27 a.m. on Friday, July 4, for a report of a crash, according to a written statement by Middleboro police.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle that left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area, according to the statement.
The driver, identified as 72-year-old Susan Sumner, of Middleboro, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
Route 28 and ramps connecting the road to Interstate 495 were closed for hours due of the crash, according to a statement by Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The crash remains under investigation by the Middleboro Police Department, with assistance from State Police detectives attached to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and CRASH Investigative Team.
