Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies responded Friday evening to a fatal shooting in Parkland that left a father, 63, dead and his son, 41, in custody, according to a social media post.
The dispatch call came shortly after 8 p.m., according to the statement from the sheriff’s office. Deputies responded to the 400 block of 142nd Street Court South.
“The suspect fled to a bedroom and barricaded himself inside,” Sheriff’s spokesperson Carly Cappetto said late Friday. “Deputies were able to get the victim outside, and administered life-saving measures.”

Those life-saving measures failed, Cappetto explained.
Negotiations with the son followed for about 20 minutes before he surrendered. Cappetto noted that “there does appear to be a mental health component” involving the suspect. The circumstances that led to the shooting are under investigation.
