Employees from Dixie Fish Company recently volunteered at the Harry Chapin Food Bank, spending a three-hour shift filling 1,157 bags of assorted fresh vegetables for distribution to more than 700 families.
“Our volunteers found the experience very rewarding and look forward to returning,” said Blake Colbert, general manager of the Fort Myers Beach restaurant. “We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the local community and help others.”

Founded in 1983, the Harry Chapin Food Bank relies on community volunteers and $2.5 million in in-kind services to feed 250,000 Southwest Florida residents every month. With a mission of leading the community in the fight against hunger through information, education, fundraising and advocacy, the organization is a member of Feeding America and operates food pantries in schools, a mobile pantry and programs for seniors.

Save the Date: FGCU Athletics’ Night
Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics recently announced it’s the date of fundraising celebration, Night at the Nest Gala. It will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, at Alico Arena.
Celebrating its 15th year, this event brings together alumni, fans and community champions for an a celebration in support of the more than 265 student-athletes “who represent the heart and soul of FGCU Athletics.”
There will be a “refined culinary experience,” a live auction, a silent auction and more. Last year’s gala raised more than $1 million.
“Night at the Nest is a powerful opportunity to support the holistic development of our student-athletes,” said Colin Hargis, FGCU Director of Athletics. “This year, we’re especially excited to spotlight the impact of nutrition as a key component of competitive success. Every gift, every paddle raise, makes a lasting difference.”
Reservations are available for $3,000 per table of 10. Additional event partnership opportunities are available, and a limited number of individual tickets will be offered.

Tee off for a cause: 32nd Annual Budreau Memorial Golf Classic
Lee Health Foundation is inviting the community to come together in “celebration, remembrance and support” at the 32nd Annual Anthony J. “Tony” Budreau Memorial Golf Classic, taking place Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Saltleaf Golf Preserve in Bonita Springs.
“This annual event honors the legacy of Tony Budreau, a Fort Myers native, standout athlete, and beloved son, brother and friend, who passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at 26 years old,” reads the release.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Lee Health ALS Clinic, providing critical care and resources for patients living with ALS in Southwest Florida.
“This event is more than just a round of golf,” said Colleen Kofsky, associate director of development for Lee Health Foundation. “It’s about continuing Tony’s legacy by giving hope to others. Every swing helps improve lives.”
There’s an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, competition for cash prizes in two closest-to-the-pin contests, a raffle, followed by a lunch buffet and awards ceremony. Single golfer tickets are $230, with all proceeds supporting ALS care through Lee Health Foundation.

Baker Senior Center receives grant
Baker Senior Center Naples has received a $10,000 grant from the United Way of Collier and the Keys to support caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias.
The Financial and Emotional Security for Family Caregivers program supports caregivers of those with ARDR.
More than 22,000 older adults live with dementia in Collier County.
“We are thankful to the United Way for its support of older adults in our community,” said Dr. Jaclynn Faffer, President/CEO of Baker Senior Center Naples. “This partnership will empower caregivers and improve economic and family stability by reducing caregiver-related financial burdens and lifting emotional well-being and stress reduction.”
