NEW LONDON — Firelands Electric Cooperative is inviting high school students to participate in its third annual Cooperative Youth Day. The event is scheduled for Oct. 23 and will include a chartered bus trip to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, according to a community announcement.
The program is open to students in grades 9-12 who attend schools in or around Firelands Electric Cooperative’s service area, which includes Ashland, Huron, Lorain and Richland counties. Selected students will be accompanied by representatives from the cooperative and will join peers from other electric cooperatives in northern Ohio.
During the trip, participants will have the opportunity to explore Ohio’s government, history and politics. Activities will include touring the Statehouse, meeting with legislators, visiting the Ohio Statehouse Museum and exploring the nearby Ohio History Center. Meals and snacks will be provided, along with a gift bag of Firelands Electric swag.
