Former Winchendon Interim Superintendent Marc Gosselin, who later declined his initial acceptance of the permanent role, has now accepted a leadership position in a different North Central Massachusetts school.
Gosselin is the new executive director of the Sizer School in Fitchburg.
Gosselin said he is super excited to work at Sizer School, and it’s a joy that he was able to stay in the North Central Massachusetts region.
“After Winchendon decided to move in the direction they moved at the school board election, I was really pleased to see the opportunity opened up at Sizer,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier to be their new executive director.”
Dr. Marc Gosselin, who was the interim superintendent at the Winchendon Public School District for the 2024-2025 academic year, is now the executive director of the Sizer School in Fitchburg.
Gosselin’s tenure in Winchendon
In early July, the Winchendon School Committee announced Gosselin’s separation from the school district. Gosselin officially left the district on June 30 and was paid $60,230.97, which is the amount he would have received if his contract had been extended for 120 days. The lowest-paid teacher’s salary in the district for fiscal 2024 was $50,986.
Gosselin was hired as the interim superintendent of the Winchendon School District for the 2024-2025 school year. His contract offered him a $180,000 salary from Aug. 5, 2024, through June 30, 2025. Then the town’s school committee chose him out of three other candidates presented by the superintendent search committee last December to be offered the permanent role.
The current interim superintendent in Winchendon is Charlotte King, who is the former director of pupil services from August 2023 to February 2025, before being appointed by Gosselin to the new title of assistant superintendent of learning and student services earlier this year. The new interim superintendent will be paid a salary of $170,000 for the 2025-2026 school year.
The reason for Gosselin’s departure from the Winchendon School District has not been made public.
About the Sizer School
The Sizer School opened its doors to students from North Central Massachusetts in 2001. The charter school spans from seventh grade to 12th grade, with over 300 students, including children from Winchendon.
In a press release posted by the Sizer School, Gosselin stated his goal as the newest executive director of the charter school is to “deepen Sizer’s commitment to learning that values depth over breadth, mastery over memorization.”
“This year is an opportunity to build on Sizer’s strong traditions while embracing new classes, new staff, and even a new mascot, all of which symbolize fresh energy in our community,” Gosselin stated in the press release. “I want every student to feel that they belong here, that their voice matters, and that they are part of a school where authenticity and respect guide everything we do.”
