Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis has been placed on administrative leave, city officials confirmed this week, though no reason has been provided for the decision.
“Due to this being a personnel matter, there’s nothing more we can share at this time,” city spokesperson Sana Syed said in a statement, according to Fort Worth Report.
Councilman Chris Nettles told the outlet that members of the Fort Worth City Council were informed Davis would be leaving his position but were not given an explanation.
Davis has led the Fort Worth Fire Department since 2018, overseeing roughly 1,600 employees across 45 fire stations. According to city records, his annual salary is $250,000.
Before coming to Fort Worth, Davis served in Columbus, Ohio, where he was responsible for training and education for firefighters and paramedics. He is a registered nurse with more than two decades of emergency and critical care experience, including 20 years as a flight RN/EMT with MedFlight of Ohio.
On the city’s website, Davis emphasized his guiding principles for the department: ensuring every firefighter has the best chance to go home safely at the end of each shift and expanding community engagement by “always asking, ‘why not?’”
City officials have not said whether Davis’s leave is temporary or permanent.
