SOUTH BEND — A free, seven-week course dubbed the Civic Leadership Academy is designed to empower informed and effective civic leaders, according to its sponsors, Indiana University South Bend’s American Democracy Project and the IUSB Office of Community Engagement.
Each week will tackle a different topic from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, from Sept. 25 to Nov. 12 in The Grill, (IUSB’s cafeteria at 1700 Mishawaka Ave.). The public is welcome to attend any of the sessions or all in the series, organizers said. Park in Lot D on Esther Street.

Sept. 25: Detecting Logical Fallacies
Oct. 2: Spotting Disinformation in Digital Media
Oct. 9: Contacting Elected Officials
Oct. 23: Understanding State and National Policy-Making
Oct. 30: Influencing County and Municipal Policy
Nov. 6: Planning Effective Political Protests
Nov. 13: Solving Community Problems with Grassroots Action
Anyone who completes the first three or the last four courses will receive a Civic Leadership Academy Certificate.
