A 20-car freight train struck a semi-truck on the railroad tracks at Lake Washington Road early Thursday, May 29.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries, Melbourne police reported. The semi-truck had significant damage, with the force of the crash pushing the truck at least 50 yards from the roadway, police reported.
The crash happened about 9 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Lake Washington. Police said the driver may have gotten out of the semi before the incident. Traffic at the intersection was blocked off as police conducted an investigation.
There was no immediate word on how long the tracks might remain closed.
