A captain at the Gaston County Detention Center was fired in March for misconduct.
Capt. Timothy Lancaster, 49, was fired March 22 for “unbecoming conduct,” according to a notice of disciplinary action from the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office.
The notice did not state what manner of conduct it was.
Jail personnel records indicate that Lancaster was hired as a detention officer in 2005. In 2007, he was made a corporal, but he was demoted back to being a deputy in 2009 and suspended for two weeks. In 2011, he was promoted and made sergeant, and in 2021 he took a voluntary demotion and became a deputy again. He was made a captain in May 2024, and he served in that position for less than a year before he was fired.
The jail did not respond to questions about why Lancaster was fired.
Lancaster could not be reached for comment.
