The Girl Scouts aim to provide a supportive space for girls to grow, connect and thrive, according to the announcement.

As a Girl Scout, girls can make new friends, learn new skills, explore the outdoors, give back to their communities, take a break from screens and be supported by caring adult volunteers.

“I know firsthand the confidence-building impact of being a Girl Scout,” Denise Schemenauer, CEO of Girl Scouts of Manitou Council, said in the announcement. “I grew up as a Girl Scout in a military family. … Girl Scouting gave me confidence and an immediate sense of being included.”

Studies show Girl Scouts are more likely than non-Girl Scouts to develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, seek challenges, form healthy relationships, be community problem-solvers and have an adult who helps them pursue goals and plan for the future, according to the announcement.

Parents interested in joining can contact Allie Floyd at allie@gsmanitou.org or 920-565-4575, ext. 320, or fill out a form on the Girl Scouts of Manitou Council website to request more information.
