Green Bay School Board member Kou Lee is resigning after just over a year on the board, in the wake of a Press-Gazette investigation that revealed he campaigned for the board seat using an address he didn’t live at.
The board will review the timeline and process to appoint a new board member at a future board meeting, according to a news release from the school district. The seat will be filled through April 2026; Lee was elected in 2024.
Lee told the Press-Gazette he’d “considered” living at that address when he filed paperwork as late as six days before his election, but the current owner said he didn’t know Lee. School board members have to live in the district for 28 days before filing for candidacy.
Lee also owns a home in Hobart, which he listed on court, property and tax records. He told the Press-Gazette he currently lives on Winter Lane, in the district, but did not provide documentation to prove it.
Only one other school board member released a statement on the investigation. Before Lee resigned, newly elected board member Alex Mineau called the Press-Gazette’s findings “troubling” and said he’d ask the Wisconsin Elections Commission to conduct an investigation. If the allegations were corroborated, Mineau said he would have demanded Lee’s resignation.
