A Hartford man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.
Noel Martinez, 35, faced sentencing last Thursday in Hartford Superior Court where Judge Kevin C. Doyle suspended his 25-year prison sentence after service of 10 years and ordered that his prison term be followed by 15 years of probation, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.
The sentencing follows a jury trial that ended in Martinez being convicted on Feb. 19 on charges of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, illegal sexual contact with a victim under 16 and risk of injury to a minor.
According to evidence introduced at trial, the Connecticut Department of Children and Families contacted the Hartford Police Department in February 2022 to report that the agency received a report of sexual abuse, DCJ officials said. The complaint was made by a family member of the victim who alleged that a girl had been sexually assaulted by Martinez five years earlier when she was 9 years old, according to the DCJ.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Alexandra Arroyo and Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Jordan Amendola, with the assistance of Inspector Carlos Ocasio, Paralegal Specialists Kelly Randall and Lakisha Malave and Intern Ana Faoro.
“I appreciate the trust that the victim and her family placed with the prosecutors, Attorneys Arroyo and Amendola, and I am thankful for the hard work and depth of attention they put into this case,” State’s Attorney Sharmese L. Walcott said in a statement.
