Here are four events in Marion to celebrate Juneteenth this year

Juneteenth, a federal holiday marking the end of slavery in the U.S., takes place Thursday, June 19.

The Black Organizations of Marion (BOOM) and Marion Voices are sponsoring a few events around Marion to celebrate and honor Juneteenth.

Here’s a list of when and where you can find them:

1. Blood Drive

When: 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, June 20

Where: American Red Cross, 1849 Summerset Drive, Marion

What: To register call 1-800-733-2767 or go to redcrossblood.org and enter MarionChapter to schedule an appointment.

2. Bobby Floyd & Friends

When: 6 p.m. Saturday, June 21

Where: May Pavilion, 276 W. Center St., Marion

What: A concert featuring artist Lacosta Mayes and comedian Cameron Steel, hosted by Janice Rodgers. The concert doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $35.

3. Historical marker unveiling

When: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28

Where: Martin Luther King Park, 205 Cass Ave.

What: The West Side Shantytown Ohio Historical Marker will be the first Ohio Historical Marker in Marion dedicated to Marion’s Black history.

4. Black Joy Summerfest & Victor Floyd

When: Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, June 28

Where: Martin Luther King Park, 205 Cass Ave.

What: Summerfest kicks off with the historical marker unveiling and culminates in an evening of jazz and entertainment.
