Education Service Center Region 2 announced the Regional Superintendent of the Year on June 5.
Orange Grove Independent School District’s Eddie Hesseltine is the 2025 Coastal Bend winner.
Hesseltine was recognized for his leadership, student-centered vision and advocacy for fair and equitable Texas school funding, according to a June 5 news release.
Hesseltine, a former football coach, has led the Orange Grove school district since 2020.

He has worked with state leaders to address school funding concerns.
“Mr. Hesseltine exemplifies what it means to lead with integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to student success,” ESC-2 Executive Director Esperanza Zendejas said in the news release. “He is a powerful advocate for public education and a true servant leader for his district and the Coastal bend region.”
ESC-2 covers 12 Coastal Bend counties and includes 42 school districts.
There are 20 regional superintendents of the year in Texas. A Texas Association of School Boards committee will select five finalists with the statewide winner announced on Sept. 12.
