The Ohio State Highway Ravenna Post and the Streetsboro Police Department will conduct an OVI checkpoint on State Route 14 in Streetsboro on Aug. 23 from 9 to 11 p.m., the highway patrol said in an media released issued Aug. 23.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

“State troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers,” said Lt. Erik A. Golias, Ravenna Post commander. “OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”

The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes. Anyone planning to consume alcohol is urged to designate a driver or make other travel arrangements beforehand.

“Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired,” says the release.
