The Honolulu Police Department and the state Department of Law Enforcement will hold a gun buyback event in Wahiawa on Saturday.
The agencies will give participants $100 gift cards for handguns, rifles, shotguns, bump stocks, and Glock switches ; and $200 gift cards for automatic firearms of any type, semi-automatic rifles, and ghost guns, according to an HPD news release.
The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wahiawa Police Station at 330 North Cane St.
HPD officials said gun owners can turn in unwanted firearms safely and anonymously. Firearms should be unloaded, in a safe container, and away from the drivers compartment, officials said.
They said the event aims to reduce gun-related violence and accidents, and that no questions will be asked during the collection process.———For more information, visit.
