The final countdown has begun for the implementation of the REAL ID in Oklahoma.
Starting May 7, any person over the age of 18 without a REAL ID will be unable to fly domestically or enter certain federal buildings.
The application process is similar to other federal or state identification processes, involving forms that verify identity and residency, among other requirements. Once you have provided the proper documents, you can choose either a four- or eight-year ID card.
The prices vary for both depending on the length of the card and other factors.
Here’s what to know about REAL IDs and costs associated.

What is a REAL ID?
Congress passed the REAL ID Act 20 years ago, establishing minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards. A major component of the REAL ID process is verifying identity.

To get a first-time Oklahoma license, residents over the age of 18 can do all the required paperwork and tests to receive a standard license.
A standard ID costs roughly the same as a four-year REAL ID in Oklahoma, but can’t be used as a substitute for one to board domestic flights or enter federal buildings.
When is the deadline for REAL ID?
The REAL ID will be implemented on May 7. If you don’t have a REAL ID by the May deadline and need to catch a domestic flight, you can still board the plane with another approved form of identification.
The TSA lists several forms of usable identification on its website, including a passport, a photo ID issued by a federally recognized tribal nation/tribe, or a Veteran Health Identification Card.
TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling domestically. TSA will not accept the temporary ID given after applying for a REAL ID.
