How Much Jeff Bezos Spends on Travel Each Year

Must read

Jeff Bezos does not just travel. He glides between oceans, cities, and orbit. This is what it costs to live that way.

When I think of billionaire travel, I think of airport lounges, private jets, and maybe a little champagne. But Jeff Bezos changed all that. His travel habits are not just about comfort. They are about domination. Air, sea, space. All of it. And it comes at a cost.

Private Jets

Bezos owns at least two Gulfstream G650ER’s, valued at approximately $65 million each, with global reach and seating for 22 people. Operating each jet clocks in at roughly $2.5 million to $3 million per year for maintenance, crew, insurance and hangar fees .. Flight logs from recent years show regular trips between Los Angeles, Washington, New York, and overseas destinations like London and St. Barts. Add fuel, crew, hangar, and maintenance, and the number rises fast.

Superyacht

In 2022, Bezos took delivery of his superyacht ‘Koru’, a 417 foot, sailing-inspired vessel estimated to cost $500 million to build. Annual operating costs for a yacht that size run between $25 million and $30 million per year. That includes crew salaries, fuel, maintenance, docking fees, and onboard luxuries like custom tenders and helicopters. Koru travels with a support yacht that holds its toys and security teams, which adds even more cost.

Helicopters

When he is not sailing or flying internationally, Bezos often uses helicopters to commute or land directly at remote properties. His partner Lauren Sanchez is a licensed pilot, and together they’ve been spotted using a Bell 429 and other aircraft. Owning and operating a helicopter can add another $500,000 to $1 million per year.

Space Flights

Bezos flew to the edge of space in 2021 on a Blue Origin rocket. While that was a one time mission, every future flight (whether for PR, testing, or guests) comes with a price. Launching a New Shepard rocket is estimated to cost $5 million to $10 million per flight, depending on payload and crew.

Security and Personal Staff

Like most billionaires, Bezos travels with a full security detail and team of aides. These people stay in five star hotels, fly private, and are on call around the clock. For someone with his profile, the annual cost of travel support easily hits $2 million to $3 million per year.

Total Estimated Annual Travel Cost

Between his jet, yacht, helicopters, and personal team, Jeff Bezos likely spends between $35 million and $45 million per year on travel. And that does not include fuel for his rocket company.

Bezos once said, “If you double the number of experiments you do per year, you’re going to double your inventiveness.” It turns out that principle applies to travel too. He is not just going places. He is testing the boundaries of what travel even means.
