HOWELL — A 61-year-old Howell man has been accused by authorities of possessing images of child pornography.
John T. Curley has been charged with one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child after he was found to be in possession of child sexual abuse materials, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Monday.
Curley was arrested on Sept. 24 without incident following an investigation by the Howell Township Police Department. Howell police executed the search warrants for electronic devices which discovered multiple images of child sexual abuse, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Santiago thanked the Howell Township Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Newark Office, the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bay Head, Brick, Monmouth University, and Point Pleasant Beach police departments, which all assisted in the investigation.
The state filed for pre-trial detention in this case and the detention hearing is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Merlin K. Thomas. Curley is represented by Michael Chazen of Freehold.
