Human remains located in the Ocala National Forest are likely those of a missing Lake County man, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
“These remains have been presumptively identified as Michael Connell,” the agency posted in an update on Facebook on Saturday. “This is still an active investigation and updates will be provided once available.”
Connell was listed as a missing person by the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post from last Wednesday after his bicycle was found. He was last seen, though, on May 29 at the intersection of Kismet Road and County Road 445 in northern Lake County near the national forest, the same location as where his bicycle was found.
The sheriff’s office said he had had a broken leg from a vehicle accident, did not own a cell phone and that he had frequented the Umatilla library.
