The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Emergency Response Unit remains at work at Ansonia High School for an oil spill that was discovered on Saturday.
According to DEEP spokesperson Will Healey, “an in-ground day tank had a mechanical error, resulting in 400-500 gallons being spilled and released to a storm drain, then a retention pond, and ultimately to a dry stream bed near a reservoir.”
Healey said the oil stopped short of the reservoir. Ansonia Public Works, along with DEEP and an environmental contractor, installed a underflow dam to contain the oil and still allow water to pass through underneath.
The DEEP said resources continue to remain on scene working and monitoring.
