Illinois 251 resurfacing begins Sept. 8. Here’s which areas will be affected

Must read

The Illinois Department of Transportation is set to begin resurfacing Illinois 251 in Machesney Park the week of Sept. 8.

The project will start in the northbound lanes at Windsor Road and extend to Melbourne Road, according to a community announcement.

The resurfacing follows recent improvements by the village, including reconstructing medians between Harlem and Roosevelt roads and upgrading ADA sidewalk ramps between Harlem and Copper roads.

“We are pleased to see IDOT’s construction work underway,” Mayor Steve Johnson said in the announcement. “This is a highly anticipated project, and we hope to see the newly resurfaced road’s positive impact on businesses along IL 251.”

Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead, consider alternate routes and exercise patience to ensure the safety of construction crews and motorists.

Construction updates will be shared on the village’s Facebook page and website.
