A woman was shot on Interstate 65 South, causing all lanes to close and traffic to be redirected, according to a Louisville Metro Police news release.

LMPD responded to a report of a vehicle collision on I-65 South near Grade Lane around 3:47 a.m. Aug. 28, spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said. Upon arrival, officers found a woman who had been shot.

Traffic was redirected to exit 131, with drivers able to get back on the interstate at the Watterson or Preston Highway on ramps, Mitchell said.

Mitchell said the woman was conscious, and her injuries were non-life threatening. She was taken to UofL Hospital for surgery.

LMPD’s non-fatal shooting unit is investigating.

“At this time, detectives have not been able to determine the details of how the incident occurred due to the victim being in surgery,” Mitchell said.

All lanes are now reopened on I-65 South.

LMPD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to contact the anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
