A Jacksonville man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Beardstown man last month.
Illinois State Police’s Division of Criminal Investigation said in a news release Saturday that 45-year-old Benchy Couloute had been detained in the Indianapolis area for first-degree murder, pending extradition.
Indiana State Police located and arrested Couloute, in conjunction with ISP special agents.

The release did not say when or where Couloute was arrested.
An online search indicated that Couloute may have previously lived in Indianapolis.

Cass County State’s Attorney Craig Miller had issued an arrest warrant for Couloute after Beardstown police had been called to a house in the 1200 block of State Street where Junior Ngoyi Kalnoji, 37, of Beardstown, was found dead on March 24, according to Cass County Sheriff Devron Ohrn.

Ohrn is also the county’s coroner.
Police had been summoned to the home by a 911 call.
