Jamestown homicide victim identified

JAMESTOWN — The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office released the name a man who was killed in a homicide last month at a Jamestown residence in a case that the sheriff’s office says involved two undocumented immigrants.

The man who was killed was Jose Margarito Alvarez-Espinal, 33, of Honduras, the sheriff’s office said.

On March 8 just before 10:45 p.m., deputies received a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 6000 block of Devoncourt Place. Paramedics pronounced Alvarez-Espinal dead at the scene.

Yoni Isaias Cifuentes Perez, 39, of Guatemala, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder shortly after the stabbing. Perez was still being held Monday at the Guilford County Jail in High Point with no bond allowed.

The reason for the gap between the homicide and the release of the victim’s name is the time it took to notify next of kin and secure other information about Alvarez-Espinal, a sheriff’s office representative told The High Point Enterprise on Monday.

The sheriff’s office asks that anyone with information about the case contact the detectives’ division at 336-641-5966 or Guilford County Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
