JCPenney stores closing in at least 7 states by May 25, the company has announced

JCPenney, a popular department store, has announced plans to shutter multiple locations across the country in the coming months.

In 2025, eight stores are slated to shut their doors. Seven of them are to close on or before May 25.

The company filed for bankruptcy five years ago.

While specifics were not provided, a JCPenney spokesperson previously told the USA TODAY that individual store closures may occur because of “expiring lease agreements, market changes or other factors.”

Currently, no New Jersey stores are scheduled to close in 2025.

Each of the following stores are set to close on or by May 25, a JCPenney spokesperson told the USA TODAY on Wednesday:

  • The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno, California.

  • The Shops At Northfield in Denver, Colorado.

  • Pine Ridge Mall in Pocatello, Idaho.

  • West Ridge Mall in Topeka, Kansas.

  • Fox Run Mall in Newington, New Hampshire.

  • Asheville Mall in Asheville, North Carolina.

  • Charleston Town Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

Here are some JCPenney locations in and near South Jersey:

  • Cherry Hill Mall, Cherry Hill – 2000 Route 38, Suite 1000, Cherry Hill.

  • Deptford Mall, Deptford – 1750 Deptford Center Road, Suite D, Deptford.

  • Ocean County Mall, Toms River – 1201 Hooper Ave., Suite B, Toms River.

  • Quakerbridge Mall, Trenton – 500 Quaker Bridge Mall, Trenton.
