It took roughly two hours for a jury on Wednesday to find a Milwaukee man guilty of carrying out a string of armed robberies that targeted Walgreens stores and ended with the shooting death of an armored truck guard.
The panel convicted Damien D. Huff of various felonies, including first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Scott Bee, a 55-year-old security guard from Waukesha.
Prosecutors alleged Huff and another man, Colby Logan, 32, of Milwaukee, robbed Walgreens pharmacies five times for prescription medication in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa in June and July 2023.
The two men also perpetrated a July 13, 2023, robbery of an armored vehicle outside a northwest side bank. Bee was fatally shot in that incident.
Milwaukee police gather outside North Shore Bank, 7927 W. Capitol Drive, after suspects robbed an armored truck and fatally shot a security guard on July 13, 2023.
Prosecutors believe Huff was the one who shot Bee, while Logan drove the getaway vehicle.
Logan pleaded guilty in November to felony murder as a party to a crime and two counts of armed robbery as a party to a crime, and was later sentenced to a 25-year prison term in the case.
Wednesday’s verdict brought to a close an eight-day trial that included video evidence and testimony from dozens of witnesses.
Among them was an inmate who told jurors on the sixth day of the trial that Huff admitted to him he was involved in at least one of the robberies.
In addition to homicide, Huff also was convicted of six counts of armed robbery as a party to a crimes and two counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony.
He will be sentenced on June 13 by Circuit Court Judge David Swanson.
