House fire extinguished

Elkhart firefighters extinguished a blaze that started in the kitchen of a two-story, single-family home at 220 Crescent St. at 6:01 a.m. Saturday.

According to a report from the fire department, all of the family members were out of the home when firefighters arrived. The report stated there was light smoke coming from the rear of the home and after meeting with the homeowners and determining everyone was out of the home, firefighters entered and quickly extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called for assistance.

Damage was estimated at $20,000 for the structure and $15,000 for the contents.

ARRESTS

• A 49-year-old Coatsville, Indiana, woman and a 65-year-old Goshen woman were arrested by Goshen police at 5:25 p.m. Saturday on charges of possession of illegal narcotics following a traffic stop in the 1000 block of West Wilden Avenue. Both were taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

• A 39-year-old Kenansville, North Carolina, woman was arrested by Goshen police at 7:33 p.m. Saturday on charges of shoplifting and providing a false identity at Walmart, 2304 Lincolnway East. She was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

• A domestic fight led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Goshen man in the 600 block of South Sixth Street at 10:14 p.m. Saturday. The woman involved in the fight was issued a request summons, police reported. Both had minor injuries but did not require medical care, police reported.

• A 17-year-old boy was arrested and released to his parents on a written promise to appear in court on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia at 3:10 a.m. Sunday following a traffic stop near Clinton Street and Remington Lane.
