LAKE WORTH BEACH — The closed half of the Lake Worth Beach bridge has reopened after more than a month of work.
The two closed lanes on the Lake Avenue bridge reopened at midnight Monday evening, April 7, operator Florida Drawbridges said Tuesday morning.
A gearbox broke, company engineer John Matthews said, preventing the southern half of the drawbridge from rising. The Florida Department of Transportation closed that part of the state-owned bridge on March 5.
To repair the Lake Worth Beach bridge a special gearbox part had to be made and delivered
Bridge crews temporarily raised the southern drawbridge while it was broken. The special part had to be made and delivered, state Transportation Department spokesman Guillermo Canedo said in March.

A review is being conducted to determine why the gearbox stopped working, Matthews said.
