A Lakeland man has died days after a severe motorcycle crash on South Florida Avenue.
Neel Patel, 28, died of injuries suffered on April 26 when he crashed while driving a motorcycle along the 4100 block of South Florida Avenue.
Lakeland Police officers responded to a report of a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle about 11:20 p.m. April 26. Officers determined a gray Ford driven by 21-year-old Travis Maxwell of Lakeland was exiting the Bowlero at 4111 S. Florida Ave.
As the Ford attempted to turn onto the roadway, an unidentified vehicle in front of the Ford made a sudden U-turn causing Maxwell to bring the vehicle to a sudden stop, police said.
At the same time, a Yamaha motorcycle driven south by Patel collided with the Ford’s rear driver door and fender.
Lakeland officers, firefighters and Polk County Fire Rescue units responded and began life-saving measures. Patel was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was shut down for approximately four hours while the scene was processed.
Patel died April 28 from his injuries.
