Three people in Escambia County died Independence Day weekend in two separate vehicle crashes.
The first occurred July 4 at 7:30 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol, when an 18-year-old driver failed to see a riding lawn mower on U.S. Highway 29, failing to apply the brakes in time.
“As a result, the front of the Honda sedan collided with the rear of the riding lawnmower,” an FHP report said.
The 61-year-old man riding the lawnmower was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the car did not sustain any injuries.
A second crash occurred July 5 on State Road 292 at River Road when a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Pensacola man hit two pedestrians trying to cross the roadway.
The pedestrians, a 20-year-old man and 20-year-old woman from Alabama, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was not injured.
