Apr. 23—LEWISTON — Police are looking into two shootings on Bartlett Street that occurred days apart, according to a Lewiston Police Department Facebook post.

Officers responded to 79 Birch St. around 4:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired. No suspects or evidence of a shooting were found. However, a call from the apartment building at 184 Bartlett St. reporting a broken window determined it was caused by a bullet, which was recovered.

On Tuesday, officers responded to 188 Bartlett St. around 10 p.m. for a report of several gunshots, the post said. Officers found evidence the apartment building at 176 Bartlett St. was struck by a bullet.

No one was injured in either incident, the post said.

Both incidents are still under investigation and police request that anyone with information contact Detectives Tyler Martin or Dom Cloutier at 1-207-513-3001, ext. 3515 or 3352.

News of the shootings comes after a relatively quiet stretch of months, according to statistics shared monthly on the department’s Facebook page.

Police confirmed two incidents of shots being fired in March, one in February and two in January.

The Lewiston community has struggled in recent years with increased gun violence, specifically in the downtown residential area.
