LEXINGTON – The village will have a Memorial Day parade this year.
Due to a miscommunication between village officials and VFW Post 5101, there was no parade last year.
Mayor Bob Jarvis at the time assured residents there would be a parade in 2025.
Bob Jarvis, Mayor of Lexington
“It’s been received well,” he said. “It’s an important day for us to honor our fallen service members.”
Staging will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Lexington High School. The parade will step off at 10 a.m., heading down Delaware Street to Main Street and to the village cemetery for a ceremony at roughly 10:30 a.m..
“I want to give credit to the VFW Post 5101 for sponsoring the parade and arranging for the ceremony,” Jarvis said.
The mayor said he started reaching out to people early this year to avoid last year’s snafu. Jarvis recognized Howard Linscott for his help with this year’s parade. The VFW member had long been involved with the parade, but was out of town over Memorial Day weekend 2024.
“Howard wanted to help out with the parade permit,” Jarvis said. “I was delighted that he was still interested.”
Among the groups with units in the parade will be the Boy Scout Troop 152, the Troy Township Fire Department and the Lexington Police Department, along with all but one of the Miss Blueberry Festival queens. The high school’s Band of Gold will also perform.
In addition, the local Kiwanis club will help with staging of the units.
“It’s a community effort,” Jarvis said.
