May 28—A Libby man is facing a negligent homicide charge after his 3-year-old son was accidentally shot to death Tuesday, authorities said.

24-year-old Timothy Moore is being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence on Granite Creek Road on May 27 at about 10:05 a.m., for a report of a child who had been shot, according to a media release issued Wednesday. At the scene, deputies were informed a child had accidentally been shot in the face. The boy was administered life-saving treatments and transported to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby, where he later died.

Moore was arrested after deputies secured a search warrant and processed the scene, the release stated. The child’s body was sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
