Long time FHP Capt. Greg LaMont retiring from the agency after 44 years

Gregory S. LaMont, a Florida Highway Patrol captain, had a retirement party ceremony held at the Ocala Police Department’s Community Room on May 16.

His last day with the FHP is May 31. LaMont has been with the agency for 44-years.

Aside from family and friends in attendance, scores of FHP active and retired troopers, lawyers, including State Attorney Bill Gladson, were at the event.

According to his biography, LaMont was in the recruit class of 1981.

His duty assignments were in Key West, Troop E as a FHP trooper; Troop F, Punta Gorda as a THI or traffic homicide investigator; Troop D, Daytona Beach as a sergeant; In Troop C in Brooksville, LaMont was promoted to both lieutenant and captain. From there, LaMont went to Tampa and Land O’ Lakes. He then went to Troop B in Ocala where he retired.

LaMont has been involved in many specialty assignments. They include THI; noise enforcement officer; DUI, firearms, breath test and taser instructor and aviation speed measuring operator.

LaMont has a bachelors degree in business administration.

After retirement, LaMont will be in the FHP reserve program working with the THI coordinator’s office and Troop B training.
