Longmont police arrested a man Thursday evening after he barricaded himself in a Baker Street garage and allegedly strangled and pointed a rifle at another person.
James Murray, 37, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. after a four-hour standoff with police in the 700 block of Baker Street, according to an arrest affidavit. He finally left the garage after a Longmont SWAT team used gas to get him out.
Murray got into an argument with a friend over Murray’s behavior before Murray allegedly pointed the gun at the man, strangled him briefly and covered his mouth with his hands, according to the affidavit.
The man whom Murray reportedly strangled told police he was in pain following the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Police initially responded to a call about a domestic violence incident around 1:36 p.m., according to Longmont public information officer Rogelio Mares.
Murray is facing four charges: one count of second-degree assault — strangulation; one count of menacing — simulated firearm; one count of domestic violence; and one count of failure or refusal to leave premises — barricades.
Murray is currently in custody at the Boulder County Jail, according to online court records. Bail information was not immediately available.
Police made multiple attempts to entice Murray to leave the garage before the SWAT team used gas, officials said. Police used a PA system to speak to him, called and texted a phone number associated with Murray, and used a distraction device.
Murray was scheduled for an advisement hearing in the Boulder County Jail’s courtroom at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
